Why retained search

Senior people in battery storage are rarely looking for a new role. The leaders who have consented portfolios, closed financings or delivered large projects are busy doing exactly that. They are reached through direct, well informed approaches, not job adverts.

A retained search commits both parties to a defined process. The client gains a partner who researches the whole relevant market rather than presenting whoever happens to be available, and the search firm can invest the time needed to assess candidates properly. The Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants describes the retained search firm as a trusted adviser to the boards and executives it serves, and that is the standard we work to.

How a STORIQ search works

Every search begins with the commercial context. Before we write a brief, we want to understand the portfolio, the capital plan, the board and what the role must achieve over the next two to three years.

How it works

  1. Briefing

We agree the outcomes the role must deliver, the success criteria and how candidates will be assessed.

  2. Market research

We map the organisations and individuals relevant to the brief across the UK and, where needed, Europe.

  3. Approach

Direct, confidential conversations with people who match the brief, including those not actively looking.

  4. Assessment

Structured interviews and referencing against the agreed criteria, with candid written commentary.

  5. Shortlist and decision

A focused shortlist, interview support and an objective view at the point of decision.

  6. Offer and integration

Support through offer, resignation and the first months in role.

Common questions

What is retained executive search?

A retained search is an exclusive assignment in which the search firm is engaged to research the market, approach and assess candidates, and manage the process through to appointment. It differs from contingent recruitment, where a fee is paid only if a candidate introduced by the agency is hired.

How long does a search usually take?

Timing depends on the role and the market, and we will give you a realistic view at briefing. We agree milestones at the outset, including when you will see the first candidates.

Do you work outside the UK?

Yes. We work across the UK and Europe, and can run searches for roles based in European markets or for candidates relocating from them.

How many searches do you run at once?

Deliberately few. Every assignment is led personally, which limits how many we take on at any time.
