BESS executive search in the UK

Great Britain is entering its most demanding period of battery storage delivery. We search for the leaders who will take UK portfolios from connection offer to operational fleet.

  • Retained, research led searches
  • UK market knowledge across development, grid, finance and delivery
  • Discreet approaches to people who are not actively looking
  • Founder led, with a deliberately small number of assignments

The UK market in context

The Clean Power 2030 Action Plan, published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero in December 2024, sets out a need for 23 to 27 GW of battery capacity in Great Britain by 2030. Modo Energy reported the operational fleet at 7.6 GW at the end of the second quarter of 2026.

At the same time, connections reform has reshaped the pipeline. When NESO published the results of the reformed process in December 2025, 83 GW of battery storage received Gate 2 offers, with 33 GW due to connect before 2030, while 153 GW was not prioritised. Businesses holding strong positions now have to deliver them, and they are competing for the same experienced people.

What UK clients ask us to find

Most UK mandates fall into four groups: leaders who can protect and progress grid positions; finance leaders who can raise development, construction and portfolio capital; delivery leaders who have built electrical infrastructure to programme; and asset management and trading leaders for growing operational fleets.

We also work on board appointments, including non executive directors with network, investment or operational experience.

Why a specialist

A generalist search firm can find a capable finance director. A specialist understands why a CFO who has negotiated revenue floors and tolling agreements may be worth more to a GB storage business than one with a larger but less relevant balance sheet. That understanding shapes every stage of the search, from the brief to the final reference.
